Celebrating the Art, History and Education of Special Make-up Effects

Located in historic Boulder City, NV, we are just 20 minutes from the Las Vegas strip. Housed beside Tom Devlin's Monster Museum, our students learn their craft amongst the rich history of those who have come before them. We don't just teach the skill of doing, but also encourage the appreciation of the art, and knowledge of the pioneers who came before us. Enrolled students will receive a complementary annual admission membership to the museum.

Your Instructor

Tom Devlin has been working as a special make-up effects artist since 2001. He studied at Joe Blasco's Make-up Center West in Hollywood, CA before his first internship on the X-Files got him a job at Academy Award winner Matthew Mungle's W.M. Creations. Here Tom got the opportunity to work on blockbuster films like Red Dragon, Scorpion King, Terminator 3 and Club Dread before opening his own shop, 1313fx.
Between heading up effects on over 100 films, Tom created a line of Halloween Masks which were used in some of the biggest and scariest Haunted Attractions across the country. He has also sculpted several masks for Trick or Treat Studios.
Tom has taught classes, workshops and seminars at make-up schools and conventions in Los Angeles (Cinema Makeup School), Chicago (Make-up First), Atlanta, Houston, Las Vegas (L Makeup Institute) and more. He was a fan favorite as a contestant on season one of SyFy's Face Off, and many of his former students appeared on the series as well. His students have also gone on to work for big effects shops like KNB, Legacy Effects and W.M. Creations, working on titles like The Shape of Water, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Captain Marvel and The Mandolorian.
